Common questions

How is the rate calculated?

A base rate per 10,000 followers for the chosen format, scaled by follower count and adjusted by a niche multiplier. The India 2026 base bands are ₹800–1,500 per 10K for an Instagram Reel, ₹400–700 for a static post, ₹200–380 for a 3–5 slide story, ₹600–1,200 for a YouTube Short and ₹1,500–3,000 for a long-form YouTube video. A range comes back rather than a single number because the honest answer to "what should this cost" is a band you negotiate inside.

Why do niches change the price?

Because the audience is worth different amounts to an advertiser. Finance carries a 1.5x multiplier and tech 1.45x, since a viewer in those categories is close to a high-value purchase and the creators face compliance risk in what they say. Beauty sits at 1.2x and fashion 1.15x, fitness 1.1x, food and lifestyle at 1.0x. Gaming is 0.9x — huge engagement, but an audience that is younger and further from a transaction.

Why is a long YouTube video so much more expensive than a Reel?

Production load and shelf life. A long-form video is scripted, shot and edited over days rather than hours, and it can only carry one brand — a creator posting four Reels a week can serve four brands, while a dedicated video costs them a slot they cannot resell. It also keeps earning: YouTube search and suggested traffic delivers views for years, where a Reel does most of its work in 48 hours.

Is this what the creator will actually quote me?

Often not, and the gap is information rather than dishonesty. Creator pricing in India is unstandardised, so quotes for the same audience routinely vary two or three times over depending on who is asking, whether an agency sits in between, and how recently the creator raised their rates. Use this as the number to sanity-check a quote against. If the quote is far above the range, ask what justifies it; there may be a good answer.

What is not included in this estimate?

Four things that regularly cost more than the post itself. Usage rights to run the content as a paid ad, typically 20–50% on top depending on duration. Exclusivity, where the creator agrees not to work with a competitor for a period. Product seeding and shipping. And revisions beyond an agreed number. Settle all four in writing before the rate, because renegotiating them afterwards is where budgets go.

Should I pay more for a creator with higher engagement?

Yes, and it is the adjustment most worth making. Follower count is a proxy for reach, and a poor one — two creators at 50,000 followers can differ fivefold in the audience that actually sees a post. Check the engagement rate and estimated audience quality first, then pay against realistic reach rather than the headline number. A creator at the top of their tier band deserves the top of the rate band.

How do I negotiate without insulting the creator?

Negotiate on scope, not on their worth. Ask what a two-Reel package costs instead of one, or what changes if you drop paid usage rights, or whether a longer commitment across three months moves the per-post rate. All three give the creator a reason to move that does not require them to admit they were overpriced. Arguing that their audience is smaller than they claim is accurate far more often than it is productive.

Do barter or product-only collaborations work?

Only at the very small end, and only when the product is genuinely desirable and worth a meaningful fraction of the cash rate. Nano creators will often accept product; anyone with a media kit and an invoice process will not, and asking tends to end the conversation. If the product retails below what the post is worth, treat barter as a top-up on a reduced fee rather than a replacement for one.
