AI Search Visibility Benchmarks: What Good Looks Like by Category (With Real Numbers)

Knowing your AI search visibility score is only useful if you know what a good score looks like for your category. A 30% citation rate in competitive beauty is excellent. The same rate in a niche supplement category with 3 major players is mediocre.

How We Define AI Search Visibility Score

AI Search Visibility Score = (queries where your brand is cited with neutral or positive sentiment) divided by (total tracked queries) x 100.

Share of Voice = your brand's citation count divided by total brand citations across your competitive set for the same query set.

How to use these numbersThese benchmarks are derived from Noma's monitoring data across Indian D2C brands as of mid-2026. Use them as a directional frame, not a fixed target.

Beauty and Skincare

Leading Indian D2C beauty brands maintain AI visibility scores of 45–65% for category queries. A new beauty brand should target 15–25% citation rate as a 90-day benchmark, rising to 30–40% by month 6 with consistent content and media activity.

Health, Nutrition, and Supplements

This category has higher AI visibility concentration. Top 2–3 brands in each subcategory tend to capture 50–70% of AI citations. Breaking into consistent AI citation here requires third-party clinical references or regulatory certification mentions on product pages.

Fashion and Apparel

AI citation in fashion is more volatile AI engines are less confident about definitive recommendations. Citation rates for leading brands rarely exceed 40% for category queries. Where fashion brands consistently appear is in brand-specific and comparison queries.

"A visibility score without a benchmark is just a number. Know what good looks like in your category before you decide whether you are there yet."
